A Foreign Affair.com is a little out of the ordinary as dating sites go.
Although it
does the usual dating site thing, it only really comes into its own when it
turns its attention to The Romance Tour.
A Foreign Affair have been conducting tours to Columbia and countries of the
former Soviet Union since 1995. These tours are exclusively for single men
looking to meet long term partners, the company having previously arranged for
500 - 2000 women(!) to attend introductory "Socials" at stops on each tour.
Boasting having been the catalyst for umpteen marriages over the years, A
Foreign Affair is very much a "we'll see you through to the end" service, with
support to obtain everything from language classes to visas at both ends - they
seem to know the system backwards, which is no surprise, given that the
company's three directors and other members of staff have all married Russian
women along the way!
When it came to the Romance Tours, as a woman, I was honestly left
wishing that they did a comparable tour for us females!

Highs
We were pretty sceptical when we first came across A Foreign Affair, but
closer examination revealed the Romance Tour end of this company's activities to
be something a little special;
- Every question we asked ourselves mentally appeared to be addressed
somewhere on the site
- they seem to run
a very tight ship.
The company prides itself on its transparency ( you can visit their offices in
Arizona at any time).
Last,
but definitely not least, the guys on the tours (you can see plenty of genuine
photos and video clips on the site) appear to be having a
really good time!
Lows
- There's very little we can criticize in the Romance Tours end of A Foreign
Affair. That is, apart from the usual difficulties about trying to develop
relationships with women who in the majority of cases, will inevitably have less
than perfect English and the need to check people are who they say they are
(there are an awful lot of "students" among the women on the site). These
things aside, we love the Tour. It's well run and appears to be fun. It's not
exactly cheap, but if it were, it probably wouldn't be able to exactly what it
says it will..which it does, and admirably.
- Our gripes about A Foreign Affair are with the traditional dating service
end of things. As you'll see below, the price for contacting women via A Foreign
Affair is extremely high when compared with that you'd expect to pay on other
dating sites, and although 17,000 women should be enough for any man(!), it's a
small database compared with other sites.
- Because of the way A Foreign Affair recruits women to the site ( by
advertising locally inviting women to attend recruiting sessions), it draws in
many women who have no access to a computer. This is can be definite hurdle to
communication, if you're used to communicating readily by e-mail.
