Evidence Eliminator

Our Verdict:

We liked this program.  We really liked it.  Our first approach was with some scepticism because of the unashamedly aggressive playing on the fears of the porn surfer who's scared of being found out ("if you get caught, you'll lose your car, your job, your family and be gang raped in jail!").

Once we got past the heavy sales pitch however, the download soon showed that the people at Evidence Eliminator are serious (passionate even)  about their product.  For a start, they don't produce or market anything else apart from Evidence Eliminator, not even other data deletion products as do East-Tec.  All their energy has gone into refining Evidence Eliminator...and it shows.

Evidence Eliminator appears to offer a near-perfect solution to sensitive data problems, whether you need to cover up your surfing tracks, keep your hard disk free of confidential data, "sanitize" your PC ready to sell on with software included or simply keep it clear of unnecessary files.

Ease Of Use

Evidence Eliminator places itself in your program Menu toolbar on your desktop, and once configured, only requires a mouse click to make it do a routine cleaning up of all the programs and/or areas of your PC that you've specified.  Once you get beyond the rather daunting pre-use instructions, you should find Evidence Eliminator very easy to use, with a layout that requires very little knowledge of how your PC is organized - you just check the boxes of things you want monitored and/or deleted and go (look at screenshots). Concerns about sensitive data aside, it was satisfying to have such a simple means of tidying up our PCs without having to rely on the discipline and time needed to do it manually.

We were impressed by the quality and range of support that accompanies Evidence Eliminator; in addition to the program manual,  you can access the database of FAQs as well as ask direct questions of an Evidence Eliminator technician if necessary.

Data Erasure

With Evidence Eliminator, we had the reassurance of knowing the erasure was permanent.

Evidence Eliminator has to be unique in that it provides plug-ins which allow you to monitor and erase files downloaded or used not only in Media Player, but also in 59 commonly used software programs, so that no-one has to know anything about how or when you use your PC. Most of the programs that we all commonly use are available as plugs-ins to the software, but if the ones that you want aren't on the current list, Evidence Eliminator make it possible for you to obtain any plug-in you want by requesting that your software manufacturer send Evidence Eliminator details that will enable them to build the new plug-in.

If you thought we were blinded by all the bells and whistles; don't worry!  Evidence Eliminator worked a treat, doing what it says it would do, and quickly.  In common with most other programs of this calibre, the cleaning of free disk space takes time, but Evidence Eliminator  offers a tip or two about how to reduce this kind of problem.

Reliability

We'd heard one or two rumours about Evidence Eliminator "taking over" PCs, so we approached the thing with caution.  We've found no problems at all to date.  Yes, the program makes itself visible on start up, but apart from that, we've found it unobtrusive and uninterested in any data other than that we specify.  Hasn't affected other parts of the PC and our contact with the company has been impressively timely and to the point. Seems we're not the only ones - take a look at their customer feedback We'd guess that the gripes we've heard might have a little to do with sour grapes elsewhere... AND they honor their 30 day money back guarantee - we tested it!

Price

If we have any reservations at all about Evidence Eliminator, they would be about the price.  At $134.95, Evidence Eliminator is significantly more expensive than any other internet privacy software program on the market.  We can see why though.  Although it offers a file erasure system comparable with East-Tec, the range of in-built functions is much more comprehensive in Evidence Eliminator, making it an eminently functional, as well as powerful tool. If you want a program with no hassles and an answer for everything, it's probably worth paying the extra bucks for a copy of Evidence Eliminator.  Look out for the regular discounts being offered on the site, which should bring the price down a little.
